EScon Digital Storage Solutions Ltd Statement on WEEE Compliance

EScon Digital Storage Solutions Ltd is committed to being properly prepared and taking all the necessary steps that will result in our compliance with the new European directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directives. EScon Digital Storage Solutions Ltd is applying its own internal efforts and expertise and is working closely with customers and suppliers to achieve compliance while maintaining an uninterrupted supply of quality products.

WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC)

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directives was passed into law by the European Union. The WEEE applies to companies that manufacture, sell, distribute, recycle or treat electrical and electronic equipment and to consumers in the E.U. It covers all large and small household appliances, IT equipment, radio and audio equipment, electrical tools and telecommunications equipment. The Directive aims to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment and to improve the environmental performance of all those involved in the life cycle of these products.

Summary of the WEEE Directive:

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive was agreed on 13 February 2003, along with the related Directive on Restrictions of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS).

  1. The Directive is designed to tackle the fast increasing waste stream of electrical and electronic equipment and complements European Union measures on landfill and incineration of waste. Increased recycling of electrical and electronic equipment will limit the total quantity of waste going to final disposal.
  2. Producers will be responsible for taking back and recycling electrical and electronic equipment. This will provide incentives to design electrical and electronic equipment in an environmentally more efficient way, which takes waste management aspects fully into account.
  3. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) aims to minimise the impacts of electrical and electronic equipment on the environment during their life times and when they become waste. It applies to a huge spectrum of products.
  4. The WEEE encourages and sets criteria for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment. It makes producers responsible for financing most of these activities (producer responsibility). Private householders are to be able to return WEEE without charge.

As required by the WEEE Directive, EScon Digital Storage Solutions Ltd will deliberately take into account the dismantling, reuse, discarding and recovery of our products, materials and components and will result in our compliance with the WEEE Directive.
